Marone: Sun City residents must be part of solution

Posted Friday, July 15, 2022 11:00 am

After reading last week’s Independent it’s become apparent that, at least to me, the Recreation Centers of Sun City has got us right where they want us. Especially when you read that out of more than 38,000 residents only just more than 1,700 voted to elect their members of the board. So what does that mean? Does that mean 36,300 don’t care what happens in Sun City? Are they simply living the good life fat, dumb and happy, paying their assessment and letting somebody else take care of things? I believe most have at least some concern!

My Dear Mr. Kepler, I am shocked, I tell you shocked, right down to the tips of my Bernie Mevs (“Not being run down anyone’s throat,” Sun City Independent, June 8, 2022)!

Sun City resident urges others to verify

Fast: Sun City resident urges others to verify

Just the facts, Ma’am.

Those who remember the TV character Joe Friday will remember that line. It seems our board is having a hard time dealing with the facts that created the Mountain View Center mess, and some on the board want people to look the other way. Like Ronald Reagan used to say, “Trust but verify.”

Rooney: Good outweighs bad in RCSC board service in Sun City

Why in the world would I put myself through that?

This is what I hear while searching for 2023 Recreation Centers of Sun City board candidates. I totally understand after serving last year. It was rough. The downsides include a considerable time commitment, enduring abuse from a few misinformed members and following the corporate bylaws to a T. Fortunately, there is a new committee taking on the monumental task of bylaws review.

OPINIONS: Lehrer: Change coming, misinformation muddles process in Sun City

In case you aren't a paid subscriber to The Sun City Independent (you should be) or you don't get a free, "thrown" copy in your driveway, this is the article that Bill P. is referring to in his blog posted in this edition - Misinformation? Disinformation? - Hmm, calling it so doesn't mean it's so.

After several months and just a bit of a rocky start, I think we can all agree that there have been a number of improvements as we reach the half-year point.

Dialogue between Recreation Centers of Sun City members and the board of directors continues to improve. The member/board exchange is still a work in process, but I am confident that your input matters and every item and suggestion will be acted upon as appropriate.

RECALL - A Sun Citian Point of View That Makes Sense to Us

“Not even judges can try their own case.”

I am appalled at the recent article (“RCSC board recalls denied,” Sun City Independent, March 2, 2022) regarding the rejection of a recall for Recreation Centers of Sun City board members Darla Atkins, Michael Ege, and Sue Wilson.

As noted, this is
