Fall Clean-Up: Issues requiring attention by the Board

Budget and Finance:

If you have not attended a Budget and Finance Committee meeting or the Special Session at Mountain View in August you are most likely clueless on where the RCSC is financially.
  • No, we are not broke
  • We are however trapped in a malaise of playing catch-up for past sins

A Day Late...

The dawn of directors supporting membership

Actually, this blog posting is several days behind our normal schedule, but you know the old adage, "if you don't have something good to say, don't say anything." Sitting in attendance at the first board meeting, I was excited by the prospect of the dawn of a new day. The Sun City Advocates worked hard to elect candidates who understood the importance of listening to the membership. Steve Collins, John Fast, and Jean Totten all campaigned on that premise/promise.

Off to a Great Start!

Refreshing Repartee

The new RCSC board of directors got off to a great start with a uniquely improved attitude towards the membership. Refreshing not to feel the disdain from the front of the room or the condescending attitude shown on all too many occasions when members raised issues they didn't like or want to hear. Yesterday, everyone was allowed to speak freely and bluntly without the normal pushback. Rumor has it,

Will the RCSC be closing down on January 1st?

"In my opinion, I would have to close down!"

We kid you not, at the November 17 board meeting this statement was made by the RCSC General Manager. There was a spirited debate regarding the $29 lot assessment increase buried in the acceptance of the RCSC budget for 2023. They tried to pass it at the October meeting and it was voted down, because there was some concern, or was it confusion? In either case, it failed. They brought it back up at the November meeting and once again on the agenda, all it said was Unfinished Business: 1. Motion to Reconsider. No explanation, no nothing.

Why I’m Not Sold on the $50K Survey

First: Recently the GM was extremely hesitant about the motion by the LRPC to purchase trial fitness equipment.  He stated he would rather wait until the 2023 budget to add it then.

$$$$ MONEY – WHO DOESN’T LIKE MONEY? $$$$$

I’ve never met a soul that didn’t like money.  How about you?

·      I came away from the Board meeting on Thursday, March 31st pretty upset about what I had just witnessed.

·     While I will be the first one to tell you that I have never paid too much attention to our Management Reports or Financials (Balance Sheet/Statement of Income and Expenses) – mostly because I didn’t understand them – I DID understand what was said and am appalled at what I heard.

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly - Part One

The Meeting Drama Continues

I suspect most of us, at least those who liked those Western movies, remember fondly the Clint Eastwood epic 3-part series (is that too strong a term?), A Fistful of Dollars, For A Few Dollars More and the best of the bunch, The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. Wikipedia called the three movies from the 60's Spaghetti Westerns and starred Eastwood and launched his career. Oddly enough I came across the final one on cable a month or so ago, and my memories of it were better than the movie was while watching again.

What hadn't changed was the haunting theme song

Accountability, Loyalty and Community Governance

Who is doing what?

The general manager has one employer; one entity he or she is accountable to. If the Directors of the Board – who were elected by us don't do their job -  we end up with one person doing whatever they want. This magnifies each year when the board members keep conducting business in the same manner. There was a reason they had term limits (1 three-year term), and there was a reason to allow a second. I'm not sure one was more beneficial than the other. I know in retrospect as openings occurred, bringing back retreads insured we continue down the same path. They simply refused to hold the general manager accountable. Frankly, I think that was why they brought former directors to close out the year.

Duties of the Board...
