This Autumn Get Educated, Communicate Your Thoughts and Participate in Elections and Meetings

Democracy is messy

I think it's safe to say, the Sun City Advocates are excited as we come to the end of the first year where self-governance was restored to our community. We won't bore you with the details of how and why we fell so far from our tenets and values; all that matters is we are on our way back. In a bit of honest reflection; I

Fall Clean-Up: Issues requiring attention by the Board

Budget and Finance:

If you have not attended a Budget and Finance Committee meeting or the Special Session at Mountain View in August you are most likely clueless on where the RCSC is financially.
  • No, we are not broke
  • We are however trapped in a malaise of playing catch-up for past sins

Guest Blog: An open letter to: The 2022 RCSC Board, the 2023 RCSC Board Members Elect, and the RCSC Membership

The Night Before Christmas...
Actually, it's three nights before Christmas and a half day; that's when the RCSC has scheduled its "Special Session." it's December 22nd at 9 am at the SunDial auditorium. There's one purpose with one item on the agenda; to have the "second reading" of the motion to pass the 2023 budget and the lot assessment increase from $496 to $525. If you haven't watched the last board meeting, you can do so by clicking here. A good stiff cocktail, or perhaps some Prozac will make it palatable (maybe).

Vote for Jean Totten, Steve Collins, and John Fast in the RCSC Election!

The Sun City Advocates were formed just over a year ago. We agreed upon three objectives to accomplish one clearly stated and defined goal: We would use Communication, Education, and Participation to try and elect candidates in the 2022 RCSC election who believed members' voices should matter. Despite all of the criticism that we were just a bunch of disgruntled and angry members, nothing could be further from the truth. We did it because we love Sun City, what it once was and what we hope it will become again.

Will the RCSC be closing down on January 1st?

"In my opinion, I would have to close down!"

We kid you not, at the November 17 board meeting this statement was made by the RCSC General Manager. There was a spirited debate regarding the $29 lot assessment increase buried in the acceptance of the RCSC budget for 2023. They tried to pass it at the October meeting and it was voted down, because there was some concern, or was it confusion? In either case, it failed. They brought it back up at the November meeting and once again on the agenda, all it said was Unfinished Business: 1. Motion to Reconsider. No explanation, no nothing.

Sun City resident urges others to verify

OPINIONS

Fast: Sun City resident urges others to verify

Just the facts, Ma’am.

Those who remember the TV character Joe Friday will remember that line. It seems our board is having a hard time dealing with the facts that created the Mountain View Center mess, and some on the board want people to look the other way. Like Ronald Reagan used to say, “Trust but verify.”

Exclusive: Mountain View debate continues in Sun City

FROM SUBSCRIBER EDITION of the Sun City Independent

Mountain View debate continues in Sun City; Residents continue to request changes Despite the lifting of a moratorium on signing any contracts for the Mountain View Center, residents continue to ask that it be extended. The center is targeted for a total rebuild that would include a performing arts center, a gymnasium, and a resort-style pool. General plans for an initial phase of construction were RCSC board approved in June last year. However, the board approved in January a 90-day moratorium on signing any contracts for the project. The delay, according to board member Allan Lenefsky who proposed it, was intended to give new board members a chance to learn the details of the project.

$$$$ MONEY – WHO DOESN’T LIKE MONEY? $$$$$

I’ve never met a soul that didn’t like money.  How about you?

·      I came away from the Board meeting on Thursday, March 31st pretty upset about what I had just witnessed.

·     While I will be the first one to tell you that I have never paid too much attention to our Management Reports or Financials (Balance Sheet/Statement of Income and Expenses) – mostly because I didn’t understand them – I DID understand what was said and am appalled at what I heard.

Hang 'em High - A Lesson in How the RCSC Spends Our Monies

And Then There Was Eight. Actually, it's not 8, but 8 million dollars.

Towards the end of last year at one of the board's planning sessions, we heard and saw a proposal to include repairing the leak in Viewpoint Lake in the Preservation and Improvement Fund (PIF) budget. It was going to be done for 6 million dollars, which was shocking because 11 years earlier the bid was twice that. The RCSC had received a reprieve on the leaking lake, which was a blessing at the time. Following the 2021 presentation,

My observations of the Town Hall meeting regarding the Oakmont Pool

Oakmont Pool Changes Town Hall Q&A Session - Oakmont Auditorium

Chris Herring conducted the meeting. There were approximately 25 members in attendance plus several staff.  He introduced Mike Gerring of Pure Vision Technologies, a company located in Mesa that’s been in existence about 11 years.

The discussion centered on the advantages of using AquaGen “Incorporates An Ultra- Fine Bubble Generator, A Version Of Which Has Been Shown To Generate Over 100 Million Ultra- Fine Bubbles Per Milliliter Of Water. By Atomizing Pure Oxygen, And Not Breaking The
