FInal Jeopardy: The Answer is...The Most Important Activity for Advocates this Fall of 2022

What is...To VOTE for 'Members Matter'  Board Director Candidates

Regarding all of our comments about the bylaw recommendations, the sale of OUR amenities, the Annual Membership Meeting on the 1st of November, and our December Elections, you may be asking yourself - What can I do?

Continue to Educate yourself on the candidates and issues, Communicate by joining in discussions, asking questions, and offering your ideas.  Participate in meetings, forums, and exchanges.

This is how we see the next few months:

  • September 29th formal Board meeting: Following this meeting, the Ad Hoc Committee presents the bylaws. Members cannot speak.
  • October 10th Member Board Exchange: Members can speak about revised Bylaws.
  • October 19th BOD Candidate Forum 2-4pm Sundial
  • October 26th BOD Candidate Forum 6-8pm Sundial
  • October 27th formal Board meeting: Supposedly someone on the Board introduces the motion to accept the revised bylaws as written.  Vote taken. We have NO IDEA whether or not the Ad Hoc committee has made any of our recommendations.  Let's say the motion passes.  As stated by Dale publicly, "any prudent member of the Board would not vote Yes to waive the second reading" so with that said, let's assume the meeting ends like that.
  • November 1st Annual Membership Meeting: Same bylaws as last year's meeting prevail (an exercise in frustration with the same rules in place).
  • November 7th Member Board Exchange: Members can speak about revised Bylaws once again. (This is NOT the second Monday of the month but it is the expected date in November)
  • Vote online (beginning 11/7) or in-person (12/13).
  • November 17th formal Board meeting: Assume that the second motion to accept the revised bylaws as written is introduced.  Because we - the members - still have no majority on the Board, it probably passes.
  • December 5th  Member Board Exchange

With this most likely scenario, you can see how IMPORTANT THE ELECTIONS ARE!!!

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has" Margaret Mead

We will be working with the candidates that support, Members Matter initiatives and plan to offer communication space to hear more from them.

Stay tuned.

There is nothing more important this fall than the election of board candidates. Unless and until the majority of the board moves to be more "enlightened," we are all caught in the vacuum of business as usual. It's time for a change. The money in the bank is meaningless when compared to the needs of the membership that have been ignored for too long.
