Everything
in their power to help them be successful |

Ideas of your own:
- Yes, clubs are a great way to meet people and spend time. But like my harvest yellow & avocado kitchen appliances taste changes and the clubs also need to change so what worked 20 years ago is not working now. Pickleball has passed golf in popularity. My daughter and granddaughters all play it. We are behind the curve. They send out a survey about what we want... well unfortunately the way the board moves nothing new will be available in my lifetime.
- The Clubs need to take more responsibility for their future. I can't see any way the RCSC can make clubs successful without the actions of individual club members. And yes, many of the clubs may have outlived their glory days and become a thing of the past, and need to make room for new clubs and new ideas.
- Games clubs might not be as necessary as in the past if only space would be provided for people to play spontaneously when they want to. RCSC could act as a facilitator for tournaments and assign a monitor, so members don't always have to take on responsibilities. Having multiple types of games going on encourages others to see what they are like and is ideal for those not wanting to limit playing to one or two clubs at designated hours. Creating opportunities for enhancing social interaction rather than having regimented hours for specialty clubs also takes less administrative work too.
- Do everything reasonable for Club success while using the Committee to make sure they follow rules, codes, and the law.
Advertise
them more. Have evening hours for those who still work. They are your future
clubs.
I assume the
club rules ensure our protected status with the IRS.
After
repeated requests to the board, management will still not allow pickleball club
events in the evening for members that work. They cite low participation
numbers while restricting participation. Club time is 7am -2pm. Myrna was
micromanaging the club and nothing has changed.
I do think
the clubs will likely fade as newer residents come in, just my opinion.
Clubs are
lifeblood for this community, at times it seemed like employees felt every
club should know what to do and how to do it, and at times not very
helpful.
Start a
"club incubator" program that allows clubs some leeway (variance)
from normal club requirements. The
management team should be evaluated based on the vitality of the overall club
programming.
There is a
website called meet up.com. If someone is interested in forming a club or a
group of people for a specific activity, they could organize it through this
website. Then, they can send out announcements About each event quickly and
easily. They bypass all of the 12 pages of rules and regulations that they have
to go through if they were to organize it through the rec center clubs. It’s quick, simple, easy, and is more
welcoming for newbies.
Utilization
must be gathered for all clubs, required & reviewed by COC monthly. Trend
for use on spreadsheets. COC should review data with club officers(?) & if
utilization isn’t sufficient to warrant costs associated with expense, space,
maintenance, etc., COC should work with officers/members of ‘like’ clubs to
discuss potential merge, i.e., multiple sewing, multiple wood, etc. May not be
able to often make changes, but at least clubs are being monitored &
oversight conducted. (If this is all currently being done, never mind!)
Clubs are not
inclusive. Working residents are not
able to participate in most because of the hours of operation/meetings. This discriminates against the younger or
still working members.
Clubs are
part of the foundation of what makes Sun City such a great place to live.
Encouragement is needed as we evolve over the years.
First, the
COC should be involved in reviewing the Clubs' annual requests to make an
informed recommendation to the Board of Directors. Also, more RCSC fees should
be directed to the Clubs. Now that we have a $3.5 M golf maintenance building
essentially for the staff, let's consider what the Clubs want.
Training for
club leadership and cooperative working together is needed for clubs. Workshops
on building consensus in group decisions. The board could really benefit from
this too🙂
Considering
it is the ‘Recreation Centers of Sun City’, the RCSC should be helpful in any
way possible to any of the clubs to help them be successful. Although I have
not been able to participate due to a heavy workload and serious medical
conditions, I make sure my dues are always paid. I thought that is what the
dues were used for!

Recently I had a friend visiting. She is a retired art teacher so I took her to various recreation centers to show her painting, stained glass, jewelry making and pottery. It was disappointing to learn that both the pottery clubs, Marinette and Grand, have waiting lists to join. Shouldn't all Members have availability since they have equal rights? How about a lottery like they use for golf?
Surprised about Club waiting lists. Is that because of space limitations?
I was told at the Marinette Clay Club, if an RCSC Member signs up for the waiting list, it could be months before there is an opening for them. I asked about extending hours of the club, which might help working Members, but I was told there aren't enough instructors. Each class usually has a maximum of six people. This is an area where the Clubs' Committee could help.
