need an obtainable forum so our voice counts.
The documents
of incorporation and bylaws need to be rewritten to get us back to community
control, if this is truly a city of volunteers the volunteers need control of
the city. Control cannot be governed by 9 plus a GM that does what he wants.

Add more
Pickleball courts. Don’t build the theatre nor a basketball court (bad
decision).
All meetings
open to the members, more transparency as to what increases are for and member
input to those increases. Mostly everyone is having a hard time financially and
to raise the yearly fee is a real hardship. Some people aren't healthy enough to use the facilities
and should be given a lower fee to be fair.
Single people shouldn't be paying the same amount as a couple. Until the economy gets better, no more
increases!
Although I
answered the survey, I found the answers biased and somewhat juvenile. I really
expected you to be better than that. That's what we are fighting with the board
and GM. Your sample base is too small and biased to carry an impact.
Board
directors should have SC neighborhood affiliations and each should have town
hall mtgs 4+/yr with their neighborhood to better know the needs of SC citizens.
Common sense,
common courtesy go a long way.

an hour of mindless procedural tripe to find out what was discussed at a board
meeting. Give me the important highlight
in an abbreviated version and we'll go from there.

post & share information on BOD, exchanges, other information that could
get missed on other sites. I attend when I can (partly for the ‘show’) but
enjoy finding more transparent info on the Advocate site & opinions of
others.
Continue to
work to preserve the livability of our community.
Do repairs as
they come up. Make an indoor area for the dog lovers as It’s too hot or cold
many days. Pickleball is often full and a very large club so looks like they
need more space. Equate it to the new golf.

the Board Members! No matter who sits at that table and represents us it should
be mandatory that they get the training and help they need. There are many
times when they don’t know how to proceed with an action during the meeting and
it makes us look like idiots for voting for them. Hopefully this new Board will
be able to find better direction and improve from their first meeting.
Find a way to
improve and renovate the rec centers rather than bulldozing them and starting
from scratch. Tearing them down and starting over makes absolutely no sense and
all it does is waste the community members money.
There should
be a way to help the single property owners by reducing their fees or finding
another way to give them some benefits. It is totally unjust that a dual
property owner is given more benefits. Along those same lines, people who are
allowed to come to our community and participate in our activities (golf, of course)
should be charged much more and should not be given any perks and allowed to
use our systems to do that!!!"
Encourage
respectful conversation between the board and management. Put on listening ears
as people can change their opinions given all the fact. Encourage open
dialogue. Work as a team together instead of warring factions. We are not politicians,
and we should strive for the betterment of our community as a whole.
Find a way to
bring peace to the members and board without creating anger in solutions.

in my opinion, some residents think if they didn’t do it then it’s a waste of
time. Not true, Sun City should have something for everyone. At the last general meeting someone got up
and said - cancel the indoor dog park, cancel Mtn View and cancel something
else. A very short-sighted opinion.
Sun City
corporate has been accumulating a cash reserve for emergencies, this is
important but how much should it be before spending some of it.
The fact that
we let our IT dept get so far behind is just wrong. Someone should be held accountable,
and I don’t mean fired I mean it’s someone’s job to inform the board, what are
the issues and what the remedy is.
Excess cash
from one year to the next should be used for clubs needs as long as we have our
safety fund.
The proposed
gym, I plan on speaking for this again.
Summer residents really have not too many indoor options to be active in
the hot summer months. We can exercise
and we can walk indoors.
Get everyone
together to try and set an appointment with the General Manager for Fridays. He
works from home on Fridays (but gets paid full for it). How can a GM ever
manage to do a credible job when they are 45 minutes away from the property?
Get rid of
Cook and Brian, we need people who can handle these golf courses. a director who has some experience dealing
with our type of community.
Have an
informal gathering once a month and open it up to anyone that wants to join in.
Do not allow individuals to use the Sun City Advocate Facebook page to promote
individual club events. Screen comments made on the site that are negative and
combative to our mission statement. Private message any person that doesn’t
seem supportive to our cause and keep the debate one on one, or better yet,
ignore those posts all together.
I believe you’re
on the right track with more transparency.
I don’t know
if this is a RCSC thing or someone else, but I wish someone would do something
about the non-golfer use of the golf course!! I feel I am the only one who
follows the rules and I’ve been accosted 3x because I don’t break the rules and
must walk my dogs along 111th Avenue (I live on 111th). If you’d like more
information, please contact me or let me know who I need to contact. I don’t
golf, but I follow the rules! Why can’t the others?

that we don’t have a large audience within the SC Advocates. Many people read
the Independent and maybe the letters to the editor should be published with

I just
appreciate your honesty and keeping us owners in the know if what is happening
around Sun City. I am still working full
time and cannot attend meetings and at this time I don’t have time for clubs
but I can’t wait for that day to soon come.
I believe residents need to be involved in our City or it is going to
change from what we bought into. I read
and hear so much of how people don’t care or want rules changed to benefit them
and their families and take away the reason Sun City has lasted as long as it
has. I just appreciate everything you
are doing on behalf of our City in getting the word out and letting us know you
need our support.
I like your
way of doing
I liked the
professionalism of RCSC survey. Yes, it
was long but we are a big entity. It as one piece of the puzzle. Please don’t put
it down. The questions asked in this survey were good although it was clear what answer was
preferred.
I think a
significantly lower rate should be offered people in the community who can no
longer physically use the rec centers. You will find these are the same people
who can also least afford it. In my opinion Sun City is in great shape but
there has never been any concern with cutting costs. We need to cut costs. The
fee increase this year, while we have a fat bank account, WAS OUTRAGEOUS.
I think we
really need the theater. It could be
used for so many performances. The
chairs and seating arrangements at Mountain View are terrible. I do not belong to any of the groups who
would make use of a theater, but I love watching. Please, at least give us the theater even if
we have to wait for the rest.
If at all possible,
we should try to get our CC&R's firmed up for some of the things that are
showing up in SC lately. The oversized buildings that obviously are an eyesore
as they don't blend with the surrounding area and the age restrictions and how
to keep those from trying to bend the rules to their benefit. We all bought
here and signed documents stating we agreed to the CC&R’s, but the new
owners come in and seem to think that these rules are for others and not
themselves. I'm not sure how these changes could be accomplished but sure would
like to see them tried.
I’m
frustrated with things taking so long to get done, or not done at all. Comments by some board members correcting
other members statements under their breath, not realizing it is picked up by
the microphone. Everyone needs to give
each other some grace.
Involve
members more. Survey is a good sounding board of our thoughts, but there needs
to be more we can contribute. Ask for volunteers to speak at the Exchange and
board meetings about a specific concern and/or motion. Personally ask members
who are passionate about an issue to speak or write a letter to the editor. The
same Advocate people tend to speak and write letters about board issues.

time to look at ways to engage the younger residents. We want to participate but still have 10+
working years so most activities are not available to us. We should have the same opportunities to use
the workshops and facilities as everyone else, but when they close at 5 pm or
earlier during the week and have maybe 2-3 hours of open time in the weekends it
prevents our use.
Sun City was
sold as a community, but I have never been made to feel a part of a
community. There's 4 HOAs on my street
alone and no one mixes with the others.
It's just sad, especially since as a year-round resident we keep an eye
out when people leave for the summertime.
Gen X is old
enough to purchase and live in Sun City.
We want to enjoy the freedom that comes with this next phase of life
when kids and grandkids visit but don't live with us. We want to know and enjoy a sense of
community that our prior walled neighborhoods didn't provide. But it doesn't seem like the RCSC or anyone
else really wants to include is yet. “

demeanor based on the last meeting. That is a direct result of The Advocates
efforts. Continue to work holding management's feet to the fire; press for
accountability. Continue efforts to put members first, e.g. golf issues, annual
fee increases with > $10 million if carry forward, wasteful spending such as
the extravagance that is to be Mt. View. There is no doubt the theater and
seating at Mt. View warrants improvement. Perhaps there exist unknow structural
ailments being kept from members. I have been told Sun City has the best lawn
bowling rinks not just in the southwest, but in all of North America. And a
$70,000 survey compiled by ASU, that reads like a 2nd grader wrote it aren't
needed to illustrate the need for more pickleball courts. Yet the past board
ignores the members, rips out the lawn bowling and eliminates the pickleball
courts. In German, it is know as "Wahnsinn".

communities, positive, and moving forward with outstanding repairs. There will
always delays with new construction or remodels, but our timeline appears to be
due to lack of complete research and commitment from contractors. Hence IT
updates!
Make sure the
board is transparent and doing the work of the members. Stop with the board
prioritizing their own pet projects. Be proactive in getting a quorum...have a
process of actively encouraging proxies for those that can't attend. And just
because not a quorum shouldn't mean members voices and opinions don't matter or
hold any weight.
More
brainstorming sessions when in planning process of most things. Seems we only
have meetings after things have basically been decided by staff or board so
comments at that point are moot. RCSC board/committees needs more contact with
members not just in formal meetings, but info gathering ones. Board members
need to be reminded they are our representatives and should bring our concerns
to the attention of the board if we write to them rather than always expect us
to attend meetings and present them. They used to have little meetings where we
could sign up and speak one-on-one with a board member but there never was any
follow-up and they stopped the mtgs anyway. If I have a suggestion, it should
be logged in, given a number, and then followed through the pipeline, not just
listened to and forgotten.

they MUST listen TO THE MEMBERS, and they should NOT allow the GM to intimidate

sued by homeowners and the Board has given the GM no direction or limits on
what he can or cannot do. As far as I know most of the Board is unaware of the
lawsuit or how it is being handled. Those bringing the suit are all members of
RCSC. The Board is failing to do its job.

When I play golf,
I pay if I bowl, I pay. Pickle ball free. Darts free. Billiards free. Lawn
bowling free and very expensive to maintain. Something is broken with these
user items more revenue could be received with only minimum charges for use.

Technology Committee Meeting Minutes
The last minutes possted from the Technology Committee were on 12/14/22.
There was a meeting on 01/11/23 - NO MINUTES.
There was a meeting on 02/08/23 - NO MINUTES.
It would appear that technology in Sun City is forever to be left 20 years behind.
Very strange there were no minutes from the meeting. I also noted while looking at the board meeting agenda and financials, there was just 0's posted for the PIF collected in January. Odd.
Bill, not odd that that $0 was posted regarding PIF. The funds are collected at closing and just because there were sales in January does’t necessarily mean there were closing. To put your mind at ease the figures can always be revised if closing were held. You must remember that the monthly statements issued are complilations (haveJohn Fast explain it) and can always be revised.
I read the motions and some are crap and unnecessary. They talk with auditors if there are any problems and if there were the auditors would issue what is called a management letter. If you were to read the actual audit report the auditors clearly state in the notes whether there any problems. Since you insist on the 990s which I have told you repeatedly are shit for any true analysis purposess it is no wonder you have your head up your but and make a fool of yourself when talking financials.
Since I am tanned, rested and ready, why is Karen McAdam on the Board. The budget presentation in December she had to Zoom call from the Vaterland and voted for the budget then only to vote against it at the Board meeting without telling the Board in advance thereby causing a crisis that was totally unnecessary. Now we have a Finance meeting on Friday and she is unable to make because she is “out of town.” My guess is her business in Germany. Seriously you call this commitment?

* Sun City West has 7 golf courses to our 8.
* Sun City West 18,000 rooftops to our 27,500.
* Sun City West in their last calendar year played 20,000-30,000 less rounds than we did in Sun City (roughly 325,000 to 350,000).
* Sun City West with less rounds, less golf courses and less population took in more than TWO MILLION DOLLARS MORE THAN WE DID IN SUN CITY (9.2 million to 7.1 million).
As long as we are chatting Dave, let me cleanup one of your comments (made repeatedly) that the 990's are garbage. Admittedly i didn't understand them when they first came out but after some explanation, here's what they do reflect: Yearly expenses to revenue with depreciation for capital investments factored in.
By the way, Sun City West runs about a million dollars over expenses when looking at their 990's. It makes sense because with newer courses, there is less capital expenditures. The point of the 990's is simple, golf with long term improvements added in will always be a losing proposition.
My point always was simple, i wanted to know how much we (the membership) was subsidizing? Golf is an amenity and as such it has to be kept up. The problem, as you can see above Dave, is the structure we use has become antiquated and outdated.
We listened to the GM explain exploding costs, much of it on our golf courses, and the only people getting golf rate increases are the daily play buyers. It's farcical to sell full play passes for next to nothing and then compound it by letting them buy all the prime time tee times with a $2 bypass.
Nobody in their right freaking mind does that. Here's the real rub: GIVING THE MEMBERS A DEAL OR A BREAK IS ONE THING, GIVING GOLFERS NOT LIVING HERE THE BARGAIN OF A LIFETIME IS INSANITY. And to add to the misery index is the 19 million dollars we will be spending to convert to desert landscaping. How much are those non-member full play passes contributing to that equation? Let me tell you, nada, nothing, zero.

Bill, where there you go aagain with I am smarter than everyone and I have all the answers. I don’t and I have said that before. You are the one accusing me of this. Cut this crap out. I understand union organizers have been known to embellish situations with information that is not true. I have been around long enough and been a union member to know this.
As for John and his motion regarding talking with auditors about problems, I know that Kevin had spoken to the auditors about the 12/31/21 audit prior to releasing same. Also in the notes to the audit, the auditors stated that there were no deficiencies. My question is do the 990s have the accountants notes attached.? I have asked this of you several times with no answers, consequently I believe the answer to be no. This is one reason and probably foremost why I believe the 990s are crap. Seems you have trouble believing it. As for the management letter I mentioned, John knows about that as he is a CPA, which I have stated on more than one accession that I am not. So John’s motion is a smokescreen of providing a solution to a problem that does not exist as the substance of the motion has already been in place. Waste of time.
Assistant Treasurer, WTF is this about? Why do we need one? Who would fill the position and what qualifications are required? Board officers are eligible to sign checks why another person. What duties would this position entail? Will a Board member fill this position or a member? Another example of solving a problem that doesn’t exist unless all Board officers traveling together die in a car or airplane crash. Waste of time and since you like history, an illusion of change as Julius Caesar once said.
Whiny golfers. I still have not heard the real issue on tee times from almost the same people. Are we talking the same course or courses near your residence or on any of the Sun City courses? If the answer on any course, my BS detector is in the red zone.The South course which you are aware I live on, is vastly underutilized. I for the most part do not see golfers until about 11 in the morning and sporadic play in the afternoon which is comprised mostly of, gasp, outside players who are, double gasp, walking. What’s the deal with that? Also if members bring their family members from back where ever, am I not “subsidizing” their play? Just asking.
The theater. I see this as two things, a potential Taj Mahal and a white elephant. A close second is the gym which would be an even bigger white elephant. Back to the topic at hand the theater. I do not believe this will be utilized as much as discussed. Aside from the Sun City players, what entertainment will be provided that is limited to 400 seats and I emphasize limited? What talks are going to be booked? Does Theresa have the chops to book this type of talent? Finally I see the players as the car club of the fine arts as they will never be satisfied. That is they will always be coming back for more. That’s my prediction.
Viewpoint Lake. So Tom Marone spent his career as a See Bee (thank you for your service) and draftsman. He should know that the most difficult areas of construction is underground work as you don’t know what is down there. You can have numerous core samples and still be surprised. This is why contingency amounts are built into contracts. As for actual contracts, you must lookout for lowballing, bid spreads, contingencies amounts not sufficient and other land mines that are always out there in construction jobs. I know this first hand.

In spite of the fact you have told us you and Jan were the only two people in the community who understood the budget and that in the space of 150 words you insulted me, Karen, John, pickleball players, golfers and the entire theater group, you started off your last post with this riveting sentence:

So Dave, Thanks for the acknowledgment, however, I was a Seabee, not a See Bee. I was also a heavy equipment operator in the Seabee's so I do know a little about moving dirt and Uncle Sam sent me to school to learn how to evaluate such projects!
Just seems unbelievable to me that even having divers in the water that nobody bothered to stick their arm into the sludge to determine how much was there. It's not like that sludge was under the liner, it was right there sitting on top!?!?!? It's not as you say, "underground work" and inaccessible, it was totally accessible but nobody took the time or effort to do what should have and needed to be done.
I've also been a project manager and if I ever quoted a project without doing my due diligence I would have been shown the door!
It's just too bad that the contractor learned that the budget was increa$ed! He should basically have to live within his original 6 million dollar budget and the RCSC should only be willing to accept a portion of any additional cost.

Bill, again you have totally misquoted me on the smartest man. I went to Jan on the FiNANCIAL STATEMENT when I was first on the Board regarding the cash carry forward she talked about in work sessions but never appeared on the statement. Additionally I asked about a line item breakdown on Work in Progress so we could see projects in force, related costs and money to complete the contract. That is when Jan said that my comments were spot on but really not necessary as I was part of the 0.01% in Sun City that understood this. We never had a private discussion about the budget.
At a subsequent budget finance I met the late Warren Clucker who was formerly a CPA with Shell Oil for his career. I voiced my concerns and agreed with me and was pleased to find another member who was familiar with financials.
Get your facts straight dude. Is this how union organizers work with a non-exclusive relationship with the truth? Think about that last sentences.

Golfers and tee times. I asked the same simple question months ago and still have not received answer. Are they upset as to their local course tee times or the inability to secure a tee time at any course? How insulting is that?
I didn’t insult John, I asked questions about something that is already in place, I.e., management letter, etc. That is the result of my work experience underwriting coverages for large financial institutions, corporations and non profits. Forgive me if I spent nearly 30 years employed by a company that was very well respected in the industry for the extensive training and expertise of its underwriters. I stand by my questions and the need for an Assistant Treasurer.
I reviewed my last post I didn’t say anything about pickleball. But while I am on the subject, the courts at Mountain View were never intended to be permanent. They were a temporary fix that was proposed by a member at an exchange who happened to be a civil engineer. It’s purpose was a place for pickleball while the Marinette project was being constructed like the pickleball facility that is there now. At the time it was stated those courts were temporary and would be demolished in the future when the Mountain View project was being done. The real question is as the sport grows Lakeview courts are a teensy bandaid to the problem. The real question is a larger facility, where to put it in a landlocked community and who has to give up space to accommodate the growing sport. You see this the same way or do I overstate my position?
The theater people. There is no doubt in my mind that this will end up as a Taj Mahal. My reasoning is that as they review the drawings more and more is going to be added causing further delays and that is not even counting county changes, approval and permitting. Even if Theresa books the same number of acts, the theater is going to be dark probably three months of the years. Then there is the idea of using it as a venue if the free Sun Bowl shows are rained out or some other force majuere comes into play. So the average attendance for the free shows is 5,000 and the theater seats 400. Does this present an ugly situation or is it me?
As for Karen, I truly question her commitment to the Board. This goes back to her separation from the Board. That defense published in the Independent in July, 2021 was, being diplomatic, not believable. Since January, 2022 I find her a long winded obstructionist with really nothing substantive to offer, who sees her commitment to to Budget and Finance committee transactional at best. I always found my Board position as a full time job and acted as such, hence, that is my view from the cheap seats.
As I stated these were my opinion.

One final note, I have noticed when you comment at Board meetings you remind me of one those Sunday TV preachers or a preacher that does tent revivals. You start out with a relatively calm voice and as you continue your keepi raising your voice until you are one octave from screaming. At times I wanted to get up and yell I am ready to testify Brother Bill! Cue organ playing He’s Got The Whole World In His Hands.

Karen McAdam is on the Board of Directors because she was elected to represent the RCSC Members. Elected not once, but twice, with the highest number of votes ever cast for Director in the history of RCSC at the time, I believe. She is competent, well versed in finance, bylaws, and committee work. I have never seen her be short or impatient with Members. She does her due diligence on topics that the Board has on their agenda and responds to emails and phone messages from Members.
Unfortunately she has had to endure disrespect from past presidents and other Directors who did not agree with her. This has happened in front of Members at meetings which has not set well with many of us. Now, and in several other posts by Mr. Wieland, she has been attacked because she isn't physically present at every committee meeting. Perhaps that was necessary in the past, but with the Internet, conference calls, email, and Zoom type meetings, it no longer is.
Personally I thank Mrs. McAdam for the thoughtful, dedicated service she has been willing to give to our governing organization. Too bad that some of the "past guard" is not appreciative of her efforts and time. Instead many of them seem to be stuck in the past way. Obviously the voters preferred new blood.

I handled a few contractors that did site work so I know a little about but not as much as you. I was thinking is the rain we had this winter might have caus3d expansion of the dirt, kind of silly thought though. I do think that because the lake slopes there would be a lot of core samples needed to get a complete picture. I also know from experience the underground work, which this is in a sense, is a venture into the unknown because you never know what’s down there no matter how many core samples. Obviously that is a discussion for another day.

As far as my comments, i studied/watched the Happy Warrior's speaking technique, he was brilliant. Hubert Horatio Humphrey owned a mic like not many others. Nope, not claiming to be him, not even close. I also loved the old Neil Diamond song "Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show." These lyrics always got me as he built to the crescendo:

But alas, all that was then, this is now.
Janet, you are correct that Karen was duly elected twice. She was duly voted off the island once per due process. The second election was the revenge tour as was Jean Tottenham as she stated at a candidate forum. Unfortunately it appears you have drank the kool aid Karen is serving up but not me. I do not feel sorry for being in the Vaterland conflicts with committee meetings. You saw first hand how really well video conferencing worked when you were on the by laws committee. Karen chose this committee and she knew from her Zoom call in December, which she had the RCSC pay for, that this committee was going to meet early this year. If you can’t make the time for the duties, then choose some other committee. Simple as that.

We obviously disagree about Karen. As for her being "duly voted off the island once per due process", there are those of us who question what the due process was, especially since there is no due process for dismissing a Director stated in the Articles of Incorporation or Bylaws, if you recall. Of course her dismissal was done in Executive Session, as it should be, so neither you nor I would know what occurred in that process. Sure, I have heard rumors, as I am sure you have, but w DO NOT KNOW. WE WEREN'T THERE!
Dave, I haven't drank Kool Aid since I was a kid. BTW, Kool Aid was invented in 1927 in Hastings Nebraska by a man named Edwin Perkins and that city has Kool Aid Days each summer. Never been, but they have a nice museum and planetarium there. I lived in Hastings for a few months while I was student teaching.
Really, Dave, I am disappointed that you stated I "have drank the kool aid Karen is serving up...", just because I agree with Jean Totten and Karen on many issues. I would have thought you would would given me more credit for thinking on my own after working together. Quite honestly, I consider that statement an insult to me.
Regarding the Zoom meetings for our Ad Hoc committee meetings, other than several late starts and a few other snags, I thought that they worked quite well. During the last few years of my career, my employer had the most up to date technology and inhouse IT personnel for educational entities. There were frequently snags. Whenever we had meetings scheduled, one of the IT technicians was always present before the meetings to work through any issues. Also, Zoom isn't that expensive to use, especially for an organization with about $130M of assets and a large operating budget. Perhaps they could use a bit of the carry forward dollars to subscribe to Zoom and use it more frequently. We used Zoom, and other platforms, all the time in my work and that was seven or more years ago.
Tomorrow will be interesting for sure! Not sure I will say anything but if I do, it will be express my support for ALL of Director Fast's motions. To quote an RCSC Member who is a CPA, "Mr. Fast has really done his homework!" Glad to see he isn't wasting any time.
I like to give credit where credit is due. I emailed Mr. Cook about a couple of things and he responded very promptly. Since I wasn't here when the Mountain View first option was being discussed, I wanted to see the plan. Mr. Cook directed me to find it on the RCSC Website under Mountain View. They didn't have any projected costs for that one. I try to do my homework, too, before drawing any conclusions. No Kool Aid needed!

Janet, obviously or maybe not familiar with the term drinking the kool aid. Aside from my childhood of heavily sugared drinks for future type 2 diabetes, it refers to the 1978 Jim Jones mass murder in South America by forcing them to drink poisoned Kool aid. It currently is another form of the term hook, line and sinker referring to a blanket acceptance of a person’s statement or position of dubious nature.
As for the due process statement, following her separation fr9m the Board, she stated as reported by Bill Pearson in June, 2021 the Karen was going to tell her side of separation story by publishing a statement in The Independant. I believe it was in July,2021 that Karen had a letter published stating that she wasn’t afforded due process involving notice. I found this letter utter BS as the real nest of the situation are the facts of the case, which she has never disclosed. I admit that I call her Princess from time to time because I know where she from, I know the people that live there, I actually worked in the city she is from prior to relocating here. I realize you are from Nebraska and I have been to Hastings, Grand Island, Gothenburg (home of a pony express station) and that fur trapper museum over I-80. But as Kevin Costner said in the movie The Untouchables, “you are not from Chicago.” I first met Karen in 2020 at the first candidate forum when she was running. I introduced myself and both be from the area I thought we could compare notes as they say. When she found out where I grew up and lived subsequently she took a very dismissive attitude which was a serious turn off and I just muttered Princess under my breath. Her antics since have done nothing to change my mind and underwriters have very long memories. Remember her interchange with me on the by laws? She was anything but serious, just a bloviating person who like to hear herself talk, me not so much.
But hey, if you are in her camp, so be it as it is your choice.
As for John Fast, he may have done his homework but is what he is presenting useful? Check out my comments tomorrow and let us see what is crap and what is useful. I am very well aware of the "drinking the Kool Aid" scenario in South America. After all, we were both adults at the time and it was all over the news for a long time. If you reread my earlier post, it is pretty obvious that I understand the "drinking the Kool Aid" reference.

1. I lived in several towns in Nebraska while growing up. I was born in Grand Island. I lived in Gothenburg (1955-59) when the Pony Express Station was moved into the City Park. There was excitement when one of the docents noticed that one of the early visitors who signed in was John Glenn! I attended college in Kearney where the Archway spans Interstate 80. Interesting exhibits but a boondoggle sponsored by one of our state's past US Senator's.
2. I remember reading both Karen's and Director Lehrer's letters in the Independent. Since the business conducted in Executive Sessions cannot be disclosed by anyone, neither letter seemed to give us enough information to understand the situation and draw conclusions from it. Neither letter should probably have been published. At the time I thought it odd that Vice President Lehrer wrote the letter rather than President Wilson. Any idea why?
3.You are correct that I "am not from Chicago". However, my husband, his father and uncle, and my sister-in-law all graduated from Northwestern University in Evanston IL. I have an aunt and two nieces (by marriage) that live in Glenview and have spent considerable time there as well as downtown. My son has lived in the Chicago area since 2007. He did his emergency medicine residency at Resurrection Hospital and has practiced medicine over the border in Indiana since then. He has lived in Logan Square, downtown within the Loop, Wicker Park and now Western Springs. Does all this mean I am related to royalty too? I hope so!
4. I am so glad you mention the movie "The Untouchables", one of my son's favorites, which is about Elliot Ness and Al Capone. Have you also seen or read "The Last of the Untouchables" which includes references about the US Attorney General for the Chicago area at the time? His name was William Froelich. He was the attorney who directed Elliot Ness what to do so that the evidence would stand up in court and was the prosecuting attorney that sent Al Capone to prison. Little side story here, Mr. Froelich was from my hometown, O'Neill Nebraska, a town of about 4,000 in north central Nebraska. After graduating from the Catholic school in O'Neill, getting his law degree from Georgetown University and while working in Chicago, he moved his family back to O'Neill in the 1930's. He built a mansion in the middle of a city block and commuted between O'Neill and Chicago with his private railcar. (O'Neill doesn't have many mansions!) I knew most of his five children and a few of his grandchildren but I became very familiar with Mr. Froelich when I returned home for the summer after my college graduation. Mr. Froelich had expressive aphasia after suffering a stroke which made communication difficult for him. As a speech therapist, I worked with him several days a week. (His wife told me she knew he liked me because he put on his French cuffs shirts when I came.) My family was of modest means so I was thrilled to be able to go into the mansion which I had admired all of the years growing up in O'Neill. Tragedies seem to affect most families in some way or another. For the Froelich's, three of his five children died of alcoholism and another one lost most of the family fortune in some oil dealings. I was very fond of Mr. and Mrs. Froelich. He was a true gentleman.

Couple of thoughts.
1. They are talking about a 400 seat performing arts theater. Why so few seats?
Other Performing arts Theaters have seating for 800 to 1500.
2. Why does the Theater have to be in Sun City. Obviously there is little to no land to build a stand alone Performing Arts Theater.
Why can't a theater be built outside of Sun City? Is there some kind of by-law or article of incorporation that says anything built for Sun City must be built in Sun City?
Oh wait. I know. If residents have to travel more than a mile it is no go.
There is plenty of open land near Sun City within 5 miles.

Of course there would be complaints from some that they have no transportation to sites outside of Sun City. To counter that the RCSC can provide shuttle service to and from any venue outside of Sun City for those who need it.
The biggest hindrance for anything in and about Sun City is NO TECHNOLOGY.
If tyheater was outside of Sun City, the shows/events could be live streamed. But not in Sun City - no technology.
I'm not a big fan of commercials, in fact the best thing that ever happened to them was the ability to record everything and fast forward past them. There was one i enjoyed more than most. It featured Dos Equis beer and the actor starring in it was dubbed "The Most Interesting Man in the World." His capacity for life was unrivaled, his intellect was superior to everyone he came in contact with and he was simply smarter than any other human being on the planet.
When the commercials went away, i figured he must have died. Now, it appears he has changed his name and moved to Sun City. Clearly he is, "The Most Interesting Man in the Word." Freaking awesome.
