Viewpoint Lake Video Links

Thanks to Rusty Bradshaw for Great Coverage on This Project

We are grateful to Rusty Bradshaw, Sun City Independent editor for producing weekly video reports on the Viewpoint Lake project progress! One would have expected the RCSC to inform Members and residents about the significant and costly effort to preserve our Sun City jewel!

When you see Rusty, give him a thank you, or email him rbradshaw@iniusa.org

Work has actually begun in the lake.

November 9, 2022 - Double pumping
https://youtu.be/_HT4VzKJgxg

10 million gallons of water have been pumped out since October 28th.

November 3, 2022 - Viewpoint Lake update

Workers were expected to be working in the lake but the project is about one month behind. We should see work begin near Cameo Drive in late November.

October 28, 2022 - Back to the Lake

Rain has slowed the drainage schedule so workers have not begun but hopefully, the next stage will begin soon.

October 5, 2022 - Lake drain progress

Pumping complications resolved, the lake should be drained by month's end.  Still on track for spring completion and June 2023 refill.  The lake is down 5.3' on the way to a maximum depth of 10'.

September 27, 2022 - Slowing the drain
https://youtu.be/8eby8MamdUk

In this week’s edition, Rusty observed little drainage happening. The lake was supposed to be empty at the end of this month. A huge pump was brought in and placed on Cameo to move things along, it didn’t work, still doesn’t. Rusty said he hasn’t been able to get any answers from RCSC about how this delay impacts the project.

interesting following this. The lake needs to be fixed. I am curious why the water with the pump attached to drain it isn't working as planned. Hopefully Rusty will get a response to his questions? It's good to be kept abreast of what is going on. View Point lake is truly a Sun City landmark.

At least we now know why they aren't pumping water out, the motor on the pump broke and are waiting for parts. Hopefully this won't slow down the project too much...or increase the costs. The gm told us all, "not one dime more than the 8 million dollars."

Bill,

The word around the campfire is that water has been pumped out and all that remains is silt. This will probably be scraped up by a front end loader or some sort variation on the steam shovel I remember when I was young. You ought to find out what is being done with the silt as it might be good for your garden or green plants. A lot of organic matter which would be high in nitrogen, good for trees.

I learned from my Dad as he was an organic gardener at home in the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s. Grew strawberries the size of hand grenades, great sweet corn and the best tomatoes I have ever tasted. Thanks Dad.

Yes, the lake is nearly drained. I anticipated that much more trash and other things would appear at the bottom of the lake. That hasn't happened which says RSCS Members, staff and the homes around the lake have been very conscientious about taking care of this lovely amenity. Thankfully, no bodies like at Lake Mead!
