The train trip to Mountain View

We wanted to be sure to capture President Lehrer's comments and member responses to her Guest Commentary in the Sun City Independent recently.  While Lehrer may view the train as en route, the final plans and budget assessments will tell the real story.

Nevertheless, the members of Sun City will not be bull-dozed into other multi-million dollar projects without more TRANSPARENCY, clear process, up-to-date input, and true review of the numbers.  We don't see lingering questions as analysis paralysis but as clarification.  In fact, we dispute there was enough analysis done.

Those who remember the TV character Joe Friday will remember that line. It seems our board is having a hard time dealing with the facts that created the Mountain View Center mess, and some on the board want people to look the other way. Like Ronald Reagan used to say, “Trust but verify.”

Why in the world would I put myself through that?

This is what I hear while searching for 2023 Recreation Centers of Sun City board candidates. I totally understand after serving last year. It was rough. The downsides include a considerable time commitment, enduring abuse from a few misinformed members and following the corporate bylaws to a T. Fortunately, there is a new committee taking on the monumental task of bylaws review.

We're posting this because I would rather have correct information circulating though the community vs rumors. The Advisory Panel of this group has no official statement or recommendation but this certainly falls under the moniker of Education.  Thank you.

Sun City residents and officials are concerned a temporary permit to allow an underage resident could endanger the community’s age overlay.

Rumors  

Apparently at a recent committee meeting, someone taped a conversation between other members who were not aware that they were being taped.  Management may start asking for all cell phones to be gathered at meetings.

Regardless of the rumor, one thing everyone should be aware of: 

It is inappropriate to do such a thing.

There is a law called the Federal Wiretap Law; it's on the internet.  Under certain circumstances, indulging in this activity makes it a criminal offense.  

People with good intentions that believe others are hiding things can sometimes step across a line that they did not even realize was there. 

Please feel free to Google the law and make your own conclusions.

I know sometimes people comment on how much i know. Truth be told, way more than most understand is the real resource behind it all is my good friend Ben Roloff. He doesn't post on this site or others for that matter. He writes articles for the Independent, for SCHOA and has given an untold number of speeches. We go to coffee often and talk about Sun City, past, present and future. It's one of my happy places.

 

Ben sent me two emails this past week and said, share them with whomever.

 They are so good, i decided TOSC was the proper place to post them. I often talk about the good old days when the RCSC trusted the membership to help shape the community. In this case, it was before they became the Recreation Centers of Sun City in 1972. It was however after the merger of the three centers, and were called the Sun City Community Association that was formed in 1968.
