An EMail From: Sun City Advocates to it's members on 1.3.22

2022 Begins with four newly seated board members

Monday, January 10th at 9 a.m. the newly-elected RCSC Board Directors and the returning 2021 Board Directors will gather for their first meeting.

Will campaign promises and board initiatives reflect member wants and needs?

As they are introduced for the first time:

*Will we see a blending together of “old” and “new,” or will we witness a “new” director shift allegiances to the “old” to form the majority?

*Will Director Collins be able to introduce the 5 agenda items presented by members at the Annual Membership Meeting on Monday, December 13th as he promised, or will he meet with opposition?

  1. Allowing members to sign petitions on RCSC property
  2. Allowing petition circulation without prior approval process - approval begins after the signatures are gathered
  3. Lower the member quorum for annual meetings to 500 down from 1250 members
  4. Define disciplinary procedures (Due Process) for Directors similar to those for Members & Cardholders
  5. Restore members' right to vote and take action (without board referral) at the Membership Meetings

*Will we see a determined member, Ricky T., try once again to obtain a Control Number from the Board so that he may continue in his quest to remove Sue Wilson by obtaining over 3,000 signatures that will not be allowed to be obtained on any of RCSC property?

*Will we see any other members object to the conduct of Director Akins at that December 13th meeting and ask for her resignation?

*Will we see the return of a lectern (podium) and chairs placed for members who wish to speak?

*Will we see the “new” candidates uphold the promises that were uttered throughout their run for office and at the two Candidate Forums in November?

Allan emphasized his ability to work together with common sense solutions; pledged to listen to everyone, even though there are diverse viewpoints; wanted better communication and open records;

Karen wanted a culture where members can and should take a role in public decision making;

Kat wanted transparency; a forensic audit; and said it was time to put words into actions;

John wanted to erase previous years’ changes; return to members having a say; incorporate a “Christmas Wish List.”

*Will we see you there?

Please consider sending an email to each Director letting them know that we are watching!  And then come to the meeting on Monday, January 10th.

We’re not done yet!!

The agenda for the meeting should be posted soon (RCSC website, or you will receive in an email blast if you signed up for those).  If you wish to speak on any of the Agenda Items, you must sign up to do so.  The sign-up sheet is located just inside the Sundial Auditorium.  It will only be there until 9 a.m.  You will have three (3) minutes to speak, and you can only speak once even if you want to address several agenda items.

In the past if you wished to speak during Member Comments, you did not have to sign up. Again, you will have three (3) minutes to speak. In the past, the Board allowed you to speak as many times as you wanted, but that was changed at the Annual Membership meeting to speaking only twice
